PREPARE FOR YOUR SCAN

Prepare with confidence for your next scan.

A little preparation helps your visit run smoothly. Here is what to know before, during and after you arrive, so you can feel at ease on the day.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

What to know before you arrive

Taking a few minutes to get ready beforehand helps your visit feel calm and unhurried.

  • Check your appointment details

Confirm the date, time and type of scan so there are no surprises on the day.

  • Follow your scan-specific instructions

If NexaScan or your care team has given you instructions for your examination, please follow them as provided.

  • Keep your referral and records handy

If you have a referral, earlier reports or images, keep them to hand and bring them if you are asked to.

  • Tell us about your health

Let us know about allergies, medicines, implants, or if you are or may be pregnant. It helps our team prepare for you.

  • Allow enough time to arrive

Plan your journey with some time to spare, so you can check in without rushing.

  • Contact us if you have questions

If anything is unclear, get in touch before your appointment. Contact NexaScan

PREPARING FOR YOUR SCAN

Preparation depends on your examination

Each type of scan can have different preparation. Please follow the instructions provided by NexaScan or your care team for your appointment.

MRI

Preparation can vary depending on the area being examined. Because MRI uses a strong magnet, metal safety matters most.

  • Remove jewellery, watches and other metal items
  • Tell us about implants, pacemakers or metal in your body
  • Wear comfortable clothing without metal fastenings
  • You may be asked to fast for some areas

CT Scan

Preparation can vary depending on the examination. Some CT scans use a contrast dye to help show certain areas more clearly.

  • Tell us about allergies or earlier reactions to contrast
  • Let us know about kidney conditions or medicines
  • Tell us if you are or may be pregnant
  • Fasting may be needed for some examinations

Ultrasound

Preparation can vary depending on the area being examined. Many ultrasound scans need little preparation.

  • A full bladder may be needed for some pelvic scans
  • Fasting may be needed for some abdominal scans
  • Wear loose clothing that is easy to adjust
  • Follow any drinking instructions you were given
